Decorative Concrete Saw
Soff-Cut International’s X-150 Prowler early-entry concrete saw can be adapted to make decorative V-shaped or radius cuts. Concrete contractors loved that feature. But they found themselves making that adaptation often, and they got frustrated.
The manufacturer took the hint. Last year, it introduced the Prowler X-150D, which does only decorative cuts.
And yes, most of the new saw’s buyers already owned an X-150. “They found they needed a second saw,” says Soff-Cut marketing manager Brenda Nabarrete. “Changing back and forth was too much hassle.”
At 100 pounds, the gas-powered X-150D is relatively lightweight. “It is small,” Nabarrete says. “It was designed to be used in residential projects.”
Decorative cuts — V-shaped or rounded radius cuts that are ground into existing grooves — are this Prowler’s specialty. Another concrete saw is used to make the rough first cut, and the X-150D follows to make it look good.
The saw boasts a low-noise, low-vibration 4.5-horsepower engine that will be appreciated in residential neighborhoods. Its size makes it perfect for driveways, sidewalks, and whenever an operator must work alongside bigger machines.
The blade block drops the blade directly into the existing cut. The integrated block maintains weight balance for a consistent cut, and an enclosure around the block controls noise and dust. Self-aligning guide wheels, which come in three sizes, assure proper alignment with the joint, and depth of cut is preset.
The Prowler X-150D costs about the same as an X-150 and a beveled-blade adapter. Soff-Cut markets seven ProEdge beveled blades for use with the saw.
