Degussa Construction Chemicals

Degussa Construction Chemicals was recognized by a California environmental group for improving ecological performance, preventing waste, conserving energy and using resources more efficiently at its Newark, Calif., plant.

StopWaste, an organization dedicated to improving environmental performance and reducing costs at California businesses, presented the honor. Degussa's Newark plant had asked StopWaste to assess the facility's recycling efforts earlier that year. Resulting changes in operating procedures provided economically sound and environmentally friendly results. To name just one example, the company used to throw away “super sacks” — four-foot-square plastic-lined fabric containers — until StopWaste told Degussa about a company that would recycle the sacks. The plant began recycling empty raw material bags and 55-gallon fiber drums that also contained raw materials. It also started reusing treated wastewater on a limited basis.

Degussa Construction Chemicals can be reached at (216) 839-7000.
