Laticrete launches Fracture Ban

Laticrete, a manufacturer of globally proven construction solutions for the building industry, announced the introduction of the Fracture Ban membrane, a high-performance, pliable, light-weight, peel-and-stick membrane designed for use under thin-bed adhesives for ceramic tile, stone and other hard surface installations. This reinforced high-strength membrane performs as an anti-fracture and an acoustical underlayment system that eliminates the transmission of stresses from the substrate while dampening the transmission of impact and air borne noise through the floor to the room below. With the release of the Fracture Ban membrane, Laticrete is also launching the specially formulated Fracture Ban Primer.

“This new peel-and-stick membrane is designed for both commercial and residential jobs where a quick dependable turnaround is required,” said Sean Boyle, senior director of marketing and product management. “Whether the contractor is working on an apartment building, office or hospital, this unique product is perfect for interior applications where sound and cracking may be an issue.”

The Fracture Ban membrane comes in 40 mil (Fracture Ban 40) and 90 mil (Fracture Ban 90) thicknesses. Both thicknesses are tested to ANSI A118.12 (anti-fracture) and ANSI A118.13 (sound-reduction) specifications. And, both are suitable for almost any substrate including concrete slabs, cement mortar beds, exterior glue plywood, precast floor panels, gypsum underlayments, radiant heated floors, ceramic tile, terrazzo, stone, self-leveling and patching compounds, backer board and existing VAT, VCT and vinyl floors.

Made from a hot-applied polymer-modified asphaltic adhesive coated on a 100 percent non-woven polyester with a 60-pound release liner paper, the Fracture Ban membrane has the physical properties to prevent stress and sound transmission. This water-resistive barrier installs quickly and features a white, non-woven surface that provides easy chalk line identification.

Released alongside the Fracture Ban membrane, Fracture Ban Primer is a concentrated premium-quality, water-based primer designed to be applied prior to the installation of Fracture Ban membrane. This multi-purpose primer may be broom, roller or spray applied and can be used on the same range of substrates as the Fracture Ban membrane.

“When the Fracture Ban membrane and Fracture Ban Primer are used in conjunction with other quality Laticrete materials, the entire installation is backed by the Laticrete comprehensive system warranty, providing peace of mind,” continued Boyle.

Fracture Ban Primer penetrates deeply into substrates to maximize bond strength. Available in 1-gallon (3.8 L), 5-gallon (18.9 L) and 245-gallon (927.4 L) sizes, Fracture Ban Primer is designed to be diluted with water. When diluted with 1 gallon (3.8 L) of water, 1 gallon (3.8 L) of concentrate will cover approximately 285 square feet (26.5 square meter).

Both products are available for viewing in the Laticrete booth (#4523) at Surfaces. Laticrete is a leading manufacturer of globally proven construction solutions for the building industry.
