Long-time Bomanite contractor runs for mayor of Marlboro Township, New Jersey

Although Ira Goldberg is a businessman and not a politician, he is the Republican candidate for mayor of Marlboro Township, New Jersey, a town of about 40,000 people. The president of Beyond Concrete, formerly Bomanite of NJ Inc., says he won the June primary by a landslide and is hopeful about winning the election in November.

Goldberg’s backers are impressed with everything about him, he says, including the fact that he’s lived in Marlboro for 36 years, has been married to his wife, Ellen, for 45 years, has run his own award-winning business for more than 30 years and doesn’t even have a speeding ticket against him.

“I have no political baggage,” Goldberg says. If he wins, he promises, “I’ll be like in the Wizard of Oz and open up the curtain and let everybody see what’s going on. There will be transparency. I want to bring ‘responsible leadership’ to our town.”

As a successful businessman, he knows he’ll be able to save the township money and really make a difference. And if he wins the race come this Nov. 3, “I can stay forever.” Goldberg’s son, Brian, inspired him to run for political office, when he ran for the U.S. Senate in 2014.
