Powerblanket’s Extra-Hot blankets accelerate cold weather jobs

Powerblanket’s Extra-Hot (EH) heating blankets provide added levels of heat for rapid thawing capability and superior equipment and machinery protection for construction contractors, masons, utility companies, and many others. Featuring patented GreenHeat Technology, the EH blankets create a barrier of insulated heat for effective temperature control and freeze prevention.

GreenHeat Technology is a revolutionary heat spreading system designed to provide a highly efficient and uniform distribution of heat while consuming low levels of energy, thus saving money by not subjecting projects to costly cold weather delays. For example, after calculating the savings in fuel and the personnel to build and move heated enclosures, Walsh Construction saved more than $5.43 for every $1.00 spent on Powerblanket heating blankets during a wintertime cold weather concreting job.

Additionally, the workers on the site found the blankets much easier to work with. In fact, Vern Adkins, carpenter foreman with Walsh Construction, stated this was the best cold-weather heating/curing system he has worked with. (View the full story at powerblanket.com/about-walshconstruction)

A recent test found Powerblanket Extra-Hot and Multi-Duty blankets outperformed the speed of standard concrete curing blankets by 2.8 times. The blankets also produced a cold weather concreting strength rating of 3,925 psi over 72 hours, versus a standard curing blanket’s rating of 2,162 psi.

The EH blankets are ideally suited to accelerate the thawing of frozen ground (up to 24 inches deep) for concrete preparation, footings, excavation and other cold weather applications. In extreme weather environments, the blankets have proven effective for curing concrete within strict boundary parameters. Service trucks, fuel tanks and heavy equipment can be preheated with the blankets, which are also useful for melting and preventing snow, ice and frost accumulation on jobsites, roofs and walkways.

Powerblanket EH blankets are offered in standard sizes as small as 2-by-2 feet and as large as 6-by-12 or 3-by-25 feet, and custom sizes are also available. Standard models are rated to -10°F /-23°C while Roughneck Gray versions are rated to perform in temperatures as low as -40°F/C.

Lightweight and portable, each blanket is powered by 120V electricity — with custom options available — and built with a durable outer shell that is winter-proof and water resistant. Powerblanket also offers non-horizontal versions of the blankets to meet UL/CSA/CE safety standards when required.
