Speedy Construction of Reconstructive Orthopedics Office

Everyone knows sports enthusiasts like speed. It turns out that the doctors caring for those same people also appreciate speed — in construction practices. That’s one of the reasons custom precast concrete wall panels were used to build the newest office for Reconstructive Orthopedics in Medford, N.J.

“We had previously worked with Northeast Precast on another medical office, so we had a good comfort level about the speed and quality of their work,” says Daniel R. Nichols, AIA, NCARB and architect with Ragan Design Group. “The speed of construction of the ‘super structure’ using Superior Walls products from top to bottom was very impressive. There’s about 12,300 square feet of 10” studded precast panel in this building.”

The Reconstructive Orthopedics building serves as a milestone achievement for Northeast Precast. It’s the first time the company provided the complete shell package for a structure.

“Our challenge was to design, fabricate, deliver and erect the concrete shell with designated openings,” says Mark Gorgas with Northeast Precast. “We took our insulated panels up from the footing and supplied the structural roof, providing our customer with a complete building shell in under two weeks. Our roofing package included a single steel beam line down the center of the building, 30-inch bar joists and B-decking.

“The precast concrete panel provided unique flexibility to meet the demands of this customer. The cavity-style stud wall allowed electrical changes to be made during the interior fit-out, which eased any concerns about working with a manufactured wall system.”

Constructed in October of 2017, the Reconstructive Orthopedics office was occupied by March of 2018. Since 1976 doctors at Reconstructive Orthopedics have performed more than 100,000 surgeries to help people with bone, joint and muscle pains at their eight offices throughout southern New Jersey. Now, with the addition of the Medford office, the team has another facility open and ready to serve the needs of their patients.
