Wood, Water and Concrete in a Modern Bathroom

A sleek upscale concrete bathroom with animal print accents.

Mike Moncrieff and his Bellingham, Wash., company, New Edge Design, submitted these photos of a concrete shower to our most recent Concrete Countertop Design Competition. We reluctantly decided shower installs couldn’t compete in a countertop contest. In all other respects, this is top-notch work.

The job, completed for a residential client in Bellingham, was dubbed by New Edge the “Vickie” project. It features a concrete shower with exposed bolts and a concrete step-in. “The customer wanted the company to have an open feel, yet be enclosed,” stated New Edge in its contest submission.

The walls of this shower are stained concrete.

Half walls made of concrete separate the space from the shower to the main bathroom.
