AMERICAN CONCRETE INSTITUTE Concrete publications aim to educate, commemorate

The American Concrete Institute announces the release of six new publications. “ACI 121R-04: Quality Management System for Concrete Construction” helps with the development and implementation of “quality systems” for concrete construction projects. A quality system allows user judgment with respect to owner needs, defined quality objectives, project organization skills, and project size, importance and complexity. “ACI 303R-04: Guide to Cast-in- Place Architectural Concrete Practice” presents recommendations for producing cast-in-place architectural concrete. It discusses the importance of specified materials, forming, concrete placement, curing, inspection and additional treatment. “ACI 440.4R-04: Prestressing Concrete Structures with FRP Tendons” outlines the history and use of FRPs (fiber-reinforced polymers) in prestressing applications. The document describes the material properties of FRPs and focuses on the state of research and development needed to ensure FRP performance as prestressing reinforcement. “ACI ITG-3-04: Report on Bridge Decks Free of Steel Reinforcement” outlines procedures for designing bridge decks without steel reinforcement. “ACI SP 223: Investigating Concrete — Selected Works of Bryant and Katherine Mather” honors Bryant Mather for his significant contributions to concrete technology. The seven-part publication covers concrete potential, cementitious materials, aggregates, durability, petrographic examination of aggregates and concrete, specifications for use of concrete in transportation structures, and research and emerging technologies. “ACI SP 224: Thin Reinforced Cement-Based Products and Construction Systems” explores recent advances in material science, manufacturing methods, and practical applications of thin reinforced cementitious products. These publications can be ordered from the American Concrete Institute by visiting www.concrete.org or calling (248) 848-3700.
