The Florida Concrete & Products Association (FC&PA) has released the “Florida Rigid Pavement Streets & Local Roads Design Guide.” This first-ever industry resource provides Florida counties and cities with in-depth instruction and best practices for the design, construction, and maintenance of concrete pavement for lower volume street and road paving projects.
“Concrete roads made with a suitable design and sound construction practices can lead to long-term environmental and financial benefits for Florida,” said Matt Sitter, president of the Florida Concrete & Products Association. “This comprehensive guide takes practitioners through this design process to ensure their next road paving project can achieve these goals.”
Highlights of the design process covered in the concrete pavement design guide include:
- The factors that can impact pavement design including traffic conditions, concrete strength, soil conditions, joint spacing, and edge support.
- How resiliency and sustainability planning can mitigate environmental issues such as the urban heat island effect.
- Maintenance, preservation, and rehabilitation treatments to extend a road’s life.
The design principles laid out in the guide are based on the industry’s innovative web-based tool, www.PavementDesigner.org. This is a user-friendly tool. It is accessible through the guide. Additionally, it simplifies the design process by eliminating the need to perform multiple computer reiterations. It also analyzes the results to determine a feasible design.
Links to instructional and technical industry reference materials also support the guide.
City and county managers, engineers and also practitioners can download this free guide by visiting www.pavewise.com/design-guide. For a live, deep dive into the materials, a free webinar is also available. This webinar takes place on Thursday, October 14th, 2021, at 10 a.m. EST. To register, guests can visit www.fcpa.org.
Florida Concrete & Products Association, American Concrete Paving Association (ACPA), National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA), and the Portland Cement Association (PCA) partnered together for the creation of the “Florida Rigid Pavement Streets & Local Roads Design Guide”.
About the Florida Concrete & Products Association (FC&PA)
The Florida Concrete & Products Association (FC&PA) is a multi-faceted trade association founded in 1955 and headquartered in Orlando, Fla. to promote the use of concrete. FC&PA represents more than 90 companies statewide. These companies produce ready-mixed concrete, concrete pipe, cement, aggregate, concrete block, concrete masonry, and admixtures for concrete. As one of the largest state concrete associations in the United States, FC&PA also develops and implements numerous marketing, technical and educational programs that focus on new innovative products, as well as proper installation and construction procedures for all types of concrete products.
