When Niagara Falls, Thompson’s WaterSeal Products are There

There’s a place where the chance of precipitation is always 100% and the winds can gust up to 75 miles per hour. At the Cave of the Winds at Niagara Falls, protecting its more than 20,000 square feet of deck space requires a water seal product that is up to the challenge. Since 2006, Niagara Falls State Park has trusted Thompson’s WaterSeal products to keep its decks and walkways looking beautiful for the more than 600,000 people who visit each year.

“We have been proud to protect the iconic decks at Niagara Falls State Park for more than 16 years and are thrilled that we can continue to support this special place,” said Erica Yacobozzi, Senior Brand Manager for the Thompson’s WaterSeal brand. “Every winter, crews remove, stain and reinstall the deck planks using the same products we sell to homeowners, providing lasting protection against wind, rain and foot traffic. If our products can be trusted at Niagara Falls, they can be trusted anywhere.”

Cave of the Winds

The series of wooden decks and staircases at the Cave of the Winds bring visitors upward until they are standing just 15 feet away from the plummeting waters of Bridal Veil Falls. The top deck, known as the Hurricane Deck, can experience winds at the same level as a Category 1 hurricane. Here, water rains down continuously. Each year, a skilled Niagara Falls State Park crew applies approximately 200 gallons of Thompson’s WaterSeal. This crew removes and reinstalls the planks using only hand tools.

“The wooden decks must be removed every fall. Otherwise, ice formed in the winter months would build up and crush them,” said Angela P. Berti, Director of Public Affairs, Niagara Falls State Park. “During the winter, our team applies Thompson’s WaterSeal products before reinstalling the decks in the spring. Each year, millions of visitors create memories that last a lifetime on those decks.”

Niagara Falls State Park is America’s oldest state park. It is home to one-of-kind decks to explore one of the wonders of the world. Learn more about this long-standing partnership at ThompsonsWaterSeal.com.
