WerkMaster achieves highest shine and clarity at World of Concrete 2016

Werkmaster at World of ConcreteWerkMaster set the new "Gold Standard" for concrete polished floors by achieving the Highest Gloss Meter Reading for shine and clarity at World of Concrete 2016 in Las Vegas. The team followed WerkMaster’s recommend UltraFloor Step by Step Concrete Polishing System which included the new Gold series of “Natural Diamond” metal bond tooling in the preparation and polishing of the three-day old concrete slab. The process resulted in the highest gloss meter reading ever achieved at World of Concrete by WerkMaster, surpassing last year’s 86 reading.

"We have been exhibiting at WOC for the past 9 years and while always having one of the better polished floors, this is the first time we have achieved a Distinction of Image (DOI) reading of 94.6 on the Gloss Meter," said WerkMaster president and CEO Brian Wilson.

The wet look and clarity of the floor attracted many positive comments from attendees, customers, exhibitors, competitors and distributors, and the "best floor in show" status was verified by an independent industry consultant using an Imbotec Concrete Clarity Meter.

The advantage of WerkMaster’s Step by Step UltraFloor Polishing System is that the results can be achieved using both a dry or wet grinding process. To achieve the results at WOC 2016, the process was a dry process that included two metal bond steps followed by a transitional resin. One coat of WerkMaster’s Ultra Densifil, a 2 in 1 clear pore filler and lithium densifier that hardens the concrete while simultaneously filling pits and small cracks was applied. A clean "tight floor" with no pitting and cracks delivers a better shine and clarity.

The floor was then subsequently polished to 3000 grit, achieving a gloss reading of 90 before applying one very thin coat of UltraGuard sealer and burnished. What is significant for the contractor, is that a gloss reading of 70 could be achieved at the 400 grit stage, with excellent clarity.

The quality of finish was achieved mainly with the use of WerkMaster’s new Cobra, a 360-pound propane machine, once again proving that it is Not About Weight – It Is About Results!

WerkMaster installed walls to demonstrate the machines ability to grind and polish to within 1/8-inch or 3mm of the wall. Edging represents a major labor cost on most jobs and traditional edging methods do not result in a quality finish. WerkMaster has developed a Job Costing Module to assist in calculating the cost of edging, tooling, densifiers, sealers and labor aiding the contractor in determining their total cost per square foot per job.
